Mr. Pritam Singh Mahna belongs to a very poor peasant family. His father S. Sant Singh Mahna born in 1898 in village Bhutta Nau (then "Bhutta Mahnia Da") , witnessed very hard days after the demise of his father in 1901. The Author was born on 24th September, 1938 there (Rukkan). From the very beginning, he had been a shining student in that he had been the monitor in all the classes till he left Rukkan due to the partition of the country when he was a student of Class IV. He resumed his studies in India at Barwala (Distt. Panchkula). Here too, he continued with brilliance and was granted Scholarship both in Class IV in 1949 and again in Class VIII in 1954. The Author shifted to Delhi in the year 1955 along with his parents and the other members of the family where he had to undergo unprecedented hardships in the matter of residence, employment and the further studies after passing Matriculation in 1956. Nevertheless, he graduated from Punjab University in 1962 by studying under the municipal lamp posts since there was no electricity connection in the Jhuggi cluster in an abandoned graveyard. Earlier, in 1959, he joined Delhi Transport Corporation and retired from there in the year 1993 as the Finance Manager under the Voluntary Retirement Scheme. Subsequently, he established a big industry along with his sons which he still continues to run at the age of 79.
