‘Before and After’ is a Gujarati-boy-meets-Bengali-girl romp, and life thereafter, in a tongue-in-cheek narrative. The contrast between pre-marriage romantic love and post-marriage realistic love, how they survive their language and community differences and give room for each other’s growth as they take on the stage of marriage, is the premise of the novel. Their love story does not end at marriage, it goes beyond. The story provides glimpses into life in Mumbai during first decade of millennia, from a middle class IT (Information Technology) couple’s view point. Before marriage one has to fight for achieving the love, after marriage one has to struggle for sustaining the love. Before marriage you live one love story, but after marriage a new love story begins every morning.
